While there are basic rules for mixing blends (each needs a base, middle and top note, for instance), the way a fragrance is balanced is a rather subjective matter. As Novenary was inspired by the desire to help others, Gemma used her own experience of imbalance to develop three distinct mixes to help ease today’s challenges.
AUM
The word Aum comes from Sanskrit and signifies the essence of the ultimate reality and consciousness. The supreme and most sacred syllable, it contains three sounds (a), (u) and (m) which are believed to be the spoken essence of the universe. Aum (or Om) is uttered as a mantra, in affirmation and blessings.
Designed to introduce peace and tranquillity into your world, Aum’s strongest scent comes from Vetiver, which is native to India. It is fragrant, sharp and earthy and can transport you to temperate climes, where warm breezes waft and envelop. The associated crystal, amethyst, encourages relaxation and rest.
ESHGHAM
Persian for ‘my love’, this blend centres on the evocative scent of Rose Maroc. Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, is said to have created the rose from her tears and the blood of her lover Adonis.
Rose Maroc has been a precious commodity for centuries, partly for its anti-ageing properties but also because its beguiling aroma is comforting and relaxing.
Its complex, full-bodied, sweet floral scent is uplifting and nurturing.
The oil is accompanied by a rose quartz – the love stone.
WAFIRA
Meaning abundance, prosperity and good fortune in Arabic, Wafira is an opulent blend. Its predominant aroma comes from the magical Immortelle – the ‘everlasting’ oil, which is native to North Africa, Crete, Madagascar and parts of Asia.
Immortelle is strongly associated with healing – the plant’s bright yellow flowers represent triumph over adversity as it can grow in the most inhospitable circumstances. Citrine is the stone of abundance and positivity.
